Quick Ride

My son Colby & I went for a quick ride last night. I wanted to see if the adjustments that i made to my bike last weekend were going to help. Last night was the first chance I have had to go.

What did I do? Well as I said before I adjusted the clips on my shoes and I also set my seat back about 1cm. I like that position but it does put a bit more pressure on my shoulders. So we went 20.57 KM in 50 minutes and my toes only began to tingle a bit on my left foot. They were both cold but it was cool. My knee did not hurt while I was cycling, which is good, and it doesn't feel any worse today than yesterday. Certainly mot any better.

Maybe is Saturday is a good day I will be able to do a 40 or 50 KM trip. Anyone want to join me? Tonight Colby & I are off o see "Man of Steel'. I wouldn't want to go cycling with him.

I will try to find out how much CFC has raised so far. I know there was another donation of $500.

Thanks for your interest,
Gary

Thursday

I must say that I am feeling the effects of the 130KM yesterday. Last evening, the back of my left knee was sore and that continues today. I have also been have problems with my feet going numb so I  was only able to go 38.16KM today in the 1 hour and 34 minutes I was cycling.

I have spent some time trying to figure out what is causing my feet to go to sleep after about 15KM. I have adjusted my cleats so hopefully that helps. I noticed, as I checked my cleats, that I had lost a screw and washed from one of them.

So that's today. I will try a bit tomoroow if if to see if my cleat adjustment helps my feet.

Day 3 or is that Day 2

I had a relatively uneventful day on my bike today. I left for Rothesay shortly after 9AM and arrived there shortly after noon. While there, I was presented with $400 for CFC that was raised by the students and staff of Valley Christian Academy. I headed home some time after 1 PM and arrived around 4:30.

Praise the Lord for no flat tires, no dogs chasing me, and no drivers too close for comfort.
Today's stats:
130.24KM in
5 hours and 17 minutes
averaging 24.6 KM per hour.

Now for a refreshing shower.

Repairs

Well, we are back from Saint John and Quispamsis. I stopped at Bikes and Beans and had them install a new tube and tire. Let's pray that this one lasts the week. Family responsibilities and the need for new parts have kept me off of the road so far today. Hopefully I will get out tonight after supper.

Off to Valley Christian Academy tomorrow to receive funds they have raised for CFC. It is only fitting that I go there & return on my bike.

Day 1 End

Well, what a day. I did get some road behind me in the afternoon until the rain came. I tried to go out after supper and only got about 7 KM until I got, yup, a flat tire.
Monday totals are:
58.72KM
in 2 hours & 17 minutes
average speed 25.7 KM
too many flat tires.

So tomorrow requires a trip to a not so local bike shop to get a new tube and tire installed by them. Just in case it is me who is somehow pinching the tire. Only it doesn't go flat until several hours later.

Tires & Tubes

Flat tire in Penobsquis after only 13KM. I put a new one on but couldn't get my mini pump off and ruined the tube. So I call Christina to come and get me, which she does, and we go to Canadian Tire. They have one, Yay!! We go home, I some lunch, and then replace the tube. As I am am inspecting that the tire has seated properly I see damage to the sidewall of my tire. I must have hit the side of a sharp rock with the side of my tire. So I take the tube and tire off of the rim again and see if I have a suitable spare. I do. Now, the old tire and the new tube are on my bike and it is ready to go again. Fortunately, or per-arranged by God, Christina has to take 3 of our children to Quispamsis today for Orthodontist Appointments. While in the area she can stop at Bikes & Beans to see about a new tire. In the past I would just go to our Sussex bike shop, Outdoor Elements, but it has not re-opened since the fire last year.

Now to check the weather and hit the road.

CFC 2013

Well, it is  time again to hit the road to help children and teens get to a CSSM Atlantic Camp this summer. I planned my ride a week later this year hoping for better weather and for now, the forecast looks good.

So here's the plan. Day trips from Sussex Corner each day this year. I had planned to ride south on the #10 to Young's Cove, or further each day, and then come back. But for now that will be done on each day this week except for Wednesday when I am going to cycle to Valley Christian Academy to accept the funds that they have raised for CFC. It is about 125 KM return to VCA.

So, if anyone wants to ride with me I will leave home about 9 AM each morning. I would appreciate the company. If you don't want to go the whole 100+ KM, that's OK, we can arrange something.
